THE RWANDA RED CROSS (RRC)

 

Rwanda Red Cross is a known and trusted organization, especially in Rwanda where it was one of few organizations that stayed during the genocide. It operates throughout five provinces and thirty districts but all programs are centralized at the headquarters in Kigali. Its diverse programs are developed and implemented to alleviate the human suffering throughout the country by mobilizing the community.

 

Services and Activities

  • Contributing to the support of the more than 6,000 Congolese refugees at Nkamira Transit Camp
  • Disaster management: Assisting 503 Rwandan families displaced by floods
  • Reunification of family members separated during war
  • Health: Community Based First Aid (CBFA); prevention of malaria, prevention of HIV/AID, PHAST, vaccination, blood donation
  • Enabling orphans and other vulnerable people to access health services by payment of community health insurance
  • Trains orphans and other vulnerable households to lay out vegetable gardens
  • Youth orphans and vulnerable are organized and integrated in cooperatives. Their projects are supported by the RRC national society. Rwanda Red Cross trains them in project management.
  • Rwanda Red Cross trains volunteers in trauma counseling and management.
  • First Aid
  • Trainings on child rights
  • The orphans, victims of sexual abuse and/or any violence benefit from legal aid. As regards housing issues, the RRC constructs for them the houses equipped with basic materials.

  • To prevent and alleviate the human suffering in an impartial way, without any discrimination as to nationality, race, gender, religious beliefs, class or political opinions etc.
