FIDESCO

Center Cyprien and Daphrose Rugamba

There are several reasons why children end up in the streets of Kigali: Some are orphans; some leave home if their parents remary or if they are violent; some go to town because they have heard stories of houses for children full of candy but the most common reason is; poor families that are too caught-up in their own misery to care about their child.

Fidesco International matches proffessional volunteers with underprivileged groups in refugee camps, youth centers, orphanages, schools etc.

In Kigali the Fidesco center is named after the founders Cyprien and Daphrose Rugamba, who were killed during the genocide. Chldren at i Fidesco are offered a place to saty for up to 6 months. They can attends school and get uniforms and food while the staff looks for a more permanent solution with parents or relatives. Out of the 300 children that the center has hosted 250 has returned to their families.
